Douglas Borthwick Supports the Orangewood Children’s Foundation

Civil litigation attorney Douglas Borthwick is the owner of the Law Offices of Freeman & Borthwick, serving Santa Ana and other locations in the greater Los Angeles area. As a member of the Orange County community, Doug Borthwick gives back through charitable support to good causes in the area. One of the most significant of these is the Orangewood Children’s Foundation, an organization dedicated to fighting child abuse and neglect in Orange County.

For the fiscal year ending in 2011, Orange County officials received more than 36,000 reports of potential child neglect, abuse, and abandonment. The children who were affected ranged in age from infants to teenagers, and encompassed every socioeconomic group and geographic area in the county. Fortunately, the Orangewood Children’s Foundation helps provide solutions to the problem. The Foundation’s Orangewood Children’s Home takes in about 10% of these suffering children—the 10% who have it the worst and must be removed by the county for their own safety—and provides them with a sheltering, caring temporary home. In addition, the organization provides extensive support for children who are in the foster care system, and furthermore assists them when they turn 18 and are “emancipated” from the foster care program. Through education and raising awareness, the Foundation also seeks to help the most at-risk families avoid creating an abusive or neglectful environment. Thanks to the efforts of the Orangewood Children’s Foundation, Orange County is a better place for kids who have nowhere else to turn.
