For two decades, Douglas Borthwick has practiced law, primarily in California. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Doug Borthwick remained in the state while pursuing his education. Mr. Borthwick earned his Bachelor of Arts from Muskingum College in New Concord, graduating in 1988 with magna cum laude honors. He received numerous awards as an undergraduate, such as the Wall Street Journal Award, the Adam Smith Award, and the Financial Executive Award. Doug Borthwick went on to obtain his Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School, located in Columbus. Once again, Mr. Borthwick was the recipient of numerous honors, including an academic scholarship, a public service award, and recognition on the dean’s list.During the last two years of law school, Doug Borthwick took his first professional role as a law clerk with the Franklin County Public Defender in Columbus. After receiving his J.D., Doug Borthwick relocated to Santa Ana, California, to become an Associate Attorney with the Law Offices of Garrett & Jenson. In this capacity, he handled a wide range of cases, including civil trials, workers’ compensation defense, debt collection, adoptions, and trademark issues. Doug Borthwick also practiced with the Law Offices of Ahrens & Rosa, providing medical malpractice defense as well as general liability insurance defense. Currently, Mr. Borthwick serves as a partner at his own firm, Freeman & Borthwick, based in Santa Ana. He focuses on cases pertaining to family law, personal injury, probate, and social security disability.Doug Borthwick has been admitted to practice before courts throughout the United States, including all courts in California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of numerous bar associations. Mr. Borthwick also belongs to several professional organizations, such as the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, the American Association for Justice (formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America), the J. Reuben Clark Law Society, and the Defense Research Institute.
